Be the expert – Once you find your niche, establish yourself as the expert by helping people on message boards, blogging about it and going to conferences.
Ask your grandmother – Because you’re an expert in your field, you might lose touch with how the average person looks for and interacts with your business. Sit down with your grandmother and ask her to find what you’re selling online. Look at how she searches–then go back to the office and work on getting yourself into those search results. And watch how she uses your site–and improve your user experience based on what you learn.
