I felt like a kindergartener saying bad words, just to get attention.

And while I may not have dropped any f-bombs, I did say some really insulting stuff.

However, this story *really* begins earlier, at a Mashable party…

At that party, they were doing these video interviews, and I wanted to do one. I knew I should do one. But I was so nervous. This was not the Andrew talking to you right now. This was the Andrew before Mixergy.

Somehow, I finally got the nerve to sit down in front of the camera. And they hit the record button…

It was bad. Really bad. I didn’t know how to talk, how to carry a conversation. I fumbled my way through.

It was so bad that they cut my interview from the final video. And I wanted to crawl under a rock. I never wanted to do another interview again.

But despite how I felt in that moment, I knew I wasn’t really going to give up forever. I wanted to learn how to do it, no matter what it took. That’s what we entrepreneurs do, right?

So I tried again, at another event. And this time I knew exactly what to do. Or so I thought…

After my first big fail, I started watching all these guys doing online videos, to study how they did it. And they were being outrageous and insulting, and they were getting attention for it.

I didn’t want to do that. But I thought, “You have to be okay with insulting people, because that’s how it’s done. That’s how you get noticed.”

So I did it. I stood in front of the camera at this event, and I started insulting people in my interview.

And I felt horrible about it. Like a needy amateur.

I was disgusted with myself. I hated that I resorted to these tactics. That I didn’t feel like I could be true to myself AND be successful.

So why am I telling you about this?

On Monday, we talked about the Minimum Viable Conversation technique, and how to BUILD rapport.

And today is all about how to not KILL rapport.

Take it from me…you don’t have to be a jerk to have a memorable conversation or a successful podcast. You don’t ever have to be someone you’re not. (And you don’t have to insult people to get attention.)

All you have to do is learn the art of conversation.

That’s what I eventually discovered, after trying and failing over and over, and learning all I could about conversations and interviews…

And after doing all of that, I got better. Eventually, people started asking ME how to do interviews…

How to start a successful podcast…

How to have better, more memorable conversations, both for networking and for their personal lives…

I found myself spending HOURS replying to their emails. Writing pages upon pages of strategies, tips, and advice…

Until it got to be so time-consuming that I couldn’t manage my inbox anymore.

And that’s when I developed Interview Your Heroes.

Interview Your Heroes is for three types of people:

  1. You want to start your own podcast, either as its own business or to promote your startup (I’ll show you everything I do to run Mixergy, right down to the software we use)…
  2. You want to be a better interviewee to promote your startup…
  3. You want to have better, more memorable conversations at work events or in your personal life…

Not only will I teach you to interview…I’ll let you swipe my files. You’ll get:

  • The Golden Invitation Email, my word-for-word email script you can use to book your interviews. This is the script that has landed tons of famous guests for Mixergy…
  • The Black Book, my secret address book to find experts that are dying to be interviewed…
  • My Pre-Interview Process. One of my best kept secrets is that I pre-interview guests before we get together for our interview on Mixergy. I recorded one of those secret conversations with an interviewee. He gave me permission to give you a transcript of that conversation, along with my notes showing what I did at each step of the process.
  • Conversation Starters. Use my go-to set of interview questions. They will help you get started and make your conversations flow easily.
  • Publishing Procedures and Monetization Techniques. These step-by-step instructions show you the easiest possible way to take your interview from draft to published on iTunes to profitable business…
    And much more…

Plus you’ll get access to our private community.

AND, for VIP students, you’ll get 6 weekly live Q&A sessions with me and other podcasting experts. We’ll answer your most pressing questions: finding your audience, interviewing, landing guests, how to be entertaining–or any other topic where you want to dive deeper.

Plus, for VIPs, I’ll even be your first interviewee, so you’ll get to practice your skills in a low-pressure situation, and you’ll get individual feedback from me.

I’m also offering a new bonus this year…one I’m especially excited about…

BONUS: Get an Interview Published on Mixergy.com…

I’ve never done this before. If you’ve followed the site at all, you know that we don’t open the site up for guest posts. And we’ve never posted guest interviews.

However, as one of my Interview Your Heroes students, you’ll have the opportunity to have your interview featured on the Mixergy site.

This alone is worth the price of the course…an instant audience for your interview, getting your name in front of tens of thousands of people, and the ability to say that one of your interviews has been featured on Mixergy.com.

Most people have to work for years to do that. However, as one of my students, I want to fast-track your success.

Even if you don’t want to be a podcaster, it’s great experience for having better conversations.

So…if you want to avoid years of terrible conversations and failed interviews, and the embarrassment of trying to be someone you’re not…

Let me help you fast-track your success.
