Upcoming: “Branding In Social Media” With VaynerMedia’s AJ Vaynerchuk (Submit Your Site)

Posted on Feb 10, 2010 - 4:03 PM PST

UPDATE: Thanks for your submissions. We picked the case studies. See you on Friday, Feb 19 @ 11am Pacific, live right here.

About this program

My audience keeps challenging me to go beyond the basic interview and make Mixergy programs even more useful. So I invited AJ Vaynerchuk, co-founder of VaynerMedia, to try a new format where we’ll show you how to use social media to build your brand.

To illustrate what he’ll show and to ensure that you see how it applies to real businesses and personal brands, I’m inviting Mixergy fans to send us their web sites. AJ & I will pick some of these sites and he’ll show how they can use the concepts that he’ll discuss.

Even if you don’t submit a site, I know this format will deepen your understanding because it’ll make the ideas more concrete.

When? Where? Etc.

When: Friday, Feb 19 @ 11am Pacific

Where: Here on Mixergy.com. You can watch and interact from your computer.

Also: If you can’t watch us live, I’ll record it and post the program on Mixergy.com

About AJ & VaynerMedia

VaynerMedia

VaynerMedia helps build brand equity for personal brands, consumer brands and startups.

Their clients include the NHL, football star Kerry Rhodes, and startup Daily Booth (in which VaynerMedia has an investment).

The company was co-founded by Gary Vaynerchuk and AJ Vaynerchuk.

AJ Vaynerchuk holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University in Advertising with a concentration in Computer Science. He has worked with his brother Gary in social media for the last 5 years. At VaynerMedia AJ is responsible for running day-to-day operations. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading on his Kindle, and following the New York Jets.

What do you think?

This format is new for me, so you know I need your feedback on it.

How could I make it work for you?

What name should I give it? (Names like “class” or “webinar” are kind of lame, don’t you think?)

What questions would you like AJ to consider?

  • mikemonty
I heard this interview had some tech problems, will it still be shared or did I miss my chance to watch it?
  • Possible ideas for the name Mixergy University, Mixergy Counsel, Mixergy Advisor,
Mixergy Sessions. Just call it the Andrew Show!
  • Hey Andrew,

We'd love to get some critical feedback.

We just beta-launched our site: BusinessChamber.com. We are an online chamber of commerce connecting businesses and business people from over a 1000 local communities around the world.

Keep up the great work! Btw the way, the itunes podcasts for coupons.com and goldstar aren't downloading.

  • I just checked out your site , Business Chamber , great idea! Do you have a site for Greece ?
  • pagidips
Thanks Maggie. We do have a Greece Business Chamber (greece.businesschamber.com).

After you sign up, please add me as a contact and I'll upgrade your account to a premium account complementary. Please send us any feedback!

    http://businesschamber.com/member/sidd-pagidipati
  • Hello pagidips,

I just joined the Greece chamber. I'm going to see how it works.
  • I will check it out , Do you have any other members ,and do you have any female members because I need feedback from females.
I've tried some forums but I don't receive that much feedback.
  • Hey Andrew,

I think the name should be "Mixergy Mentorship" or "Mixergy Mentors" and add the name of the person ex: "AJ Vaynerchuk on Mixergy Mentors"

    See you Friday!
  • I found out about this site through the Expat women , very informative.
How about naming it " COLLAGE" , different ideas from various business people.
  • I'd love to hear what AJ has to suggest for my blog or my "storefront" site.

    Blog: (50,000 pageviews) - www.windowcleaningbusinesscoach.com/coach

    Storefront Site: www.kevindubrosky.com

Thanks for your input, I'd love to hear where AJ thinks I can make some strong strides forward.

I am currently monetizing it, but know there is huge potential to grow.
  • Martin Walker
Ignore my last statement about being thick! Took a certain amount of genius to work this out.
  • Martin Walker
Love the site Andrew, and I do my best to promote what you do wherever I can. Think this is a great development - how about Mixergy Mentorzone for a name?

PS - posting this as a guest as I'm clearly too thick to work out how to post on here as a member.
  • Hey Andrew

Thanks for the opportunity. I will definitely be here Friday, Feb 19, really looking for to this.
  • AJ was amazing last time he was on Mixergy so I really look forward to this interview. The format should be great as well. To me it's like real time case studies with actionable advice.
  • k_
Q 4 AJ : how to deal with fragmentation.
You can have the best brand in the world but the conversations don't take place on your blog, they take place on Google Buzz, Twitter, FB, ... you can't control what's being said and why would you, but in some instances you have to reach out & unless you have a whole team behind you can't because the conversations are everywhere.
Look at Twitter, their server used to crash a lot. Users always came back but that's because it's such a high profile comp.
Most small businesses aren't as big, don't have VC money. They are busy at fixing the technical problems. And when users come to the site and experience it's down how often do new users come back? 0 to max 2 times?
  • Jay
Besides your excellent site, Andrew. I wonder why there isn't a discussion board on your website where your faithful listeners can exchange, collaborate and create ideas. I'm a Mixergy regular, but really havn't reached out to other regs currently using Mixergy. Would be awesome to have something threaded besides comments where we can interact with one another.

  • How about using a private microblog platform for community engagement? It appears that using http://presentlyapp.com to set up a Mixergy hang-out would be free.
  • Great idea Jay. During the live PG interview, I was watching the Meebo interaction and thinking there's a community of entrepreneurs just waiting to be unleashed.
  • Ditto to this! I watch all of these and would really like to connect with the others on here
  • I would offer my skills to set it up for you, but my time is limited at the moment. If you can't find the time in a week or two let me know. I'll make some time to do it.
  • You're right. I just need to find time to do it. But you're 100% right.

Thanks for the opportunity to submit my site.

Can't think of a name for it off the top of my head, but i'll have a coffee and ponder....

    Some of my questions are:
    >> To what extent do you differentiate your message between different social media channels?
    >> What is the best way to make sure your message is seamlessly intertwined between website, facebook, twitter, blogs etc
    >> Using social media effectively is obviously very time consuming, in the case of a lot of small business do you think that they would see the return for the time invested?

Thanks again Andrew. Have been loving the frequency and the quality of the interviews you have been posting. I was thinking the other day that I kind of see mixergy as my saviour. If I hadn't had stumpled upon your site 12-18 months ago I think I may have been cruising around, just like most people. Mixergy inspires me to keep pushing forward and create something.

I know you always talk yourself down in interviews about not being professionally polished and stumbling over words etc, but I don't care at all - i love the rawness and the passion. Anyway, just wanted to say keep doing what you are doing, and don't worry so much!

    Enjoy Buenos Aires!
  • I think the idea of this kind of format is great. You should expand it on people who were already on the show so the audience can ask questions they have after watching the old interview. About the name, well, I'll put my thinking cap on. :)
  • Mixergy Academy or Mixergy Campus :)
  • Mixergy Lessons?
  • Thanks guys :) I prefer Academy to Campus, too.
  • g_
Normally I would say academy is a good name, but it sounds like a main stream (normal) educational institution. (And we all know how Andrew thinks about traditional schooling system.) This is so much different than that. Cooler. Funkier. What if we try to suggest something that is more hacker/nerdy/tech/startup?

What about Mixergy Zone? Hub? eMeet? Nucleus? Conquest? Journey?
  • ka_earl
I vote for Mixergy Academy (much better than my idea!)
  • covercash
I like Mixergy Academy. I was thinking Mixergy Labs, where the guest gives a few steps to achieve a specific goal, audience members then try it and a week or so later report back with the results.

A little off topic, I also was thinking that maybe when guests don't show up Andrew can do Mixergy Show & Tell.
