Thank You Jason Cosper For Killing Mixergy’s “Blog”!
on Jun 9, 2009 - 3:57 PM PST![]()

What happened
Mixergy’s URL used to be blog.mixergy.com. I hated that “blog.” but it was a pain to get rid of. Jason Cosper (AKA @boogah) spent hours on Sunday killing it but making sure all the old links worked properly.
Thanks to him, Mixergy’s URL is now simply, Mixergy.com!
Who is Jason Cosper?
- The resident WordPress nerd @ DreamHost.
- He runs the LA WordPress Users Group.
- He’s a blogger.
- He’s the guy in the picture above.
- He helped organize BarCampLA.
Update: I just heard he’s available for WordPress admin work. You should hire him.
What else is up with Mixergy?
- It’s now hosted on DreamHost. I’ve wanted to be with them for years, but needed help making the move. Jason took care of it.
- The site runs much faster. I think that’s a combination of being with DreamHost and some of the plugins Jason installed.
- The old comments aren’t up yet. But Disqus, who I use for comments, says they’ll have them back up soon.
- The old links work. But if you have trouble with any of them, let me know.
Why am I posting this note?
Jason did all this work as a favor to help me out with Mixergy. It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t quick. I’m very grateful to him.

Rocking! So much better with a shorter url. I'll have to go through my links to mixergy and update them. Really love how the site is looking.

I'm glad to have been of service, Andrew! Mixergy is a fantastic resource and I know how much you wanted to stamp out the old “blog.mixergy.com” URL.
And while I do have a day job, I'm not beyond a little WordPress related admin work… ;) So if you know anyone who needs somebody, keep me in mind.

It is always nice to have some help with things like that! It is definitely a nice improvement.

Hey Andrew – This is great. One minor issue: mixergy.com is not redirecting to http://www.mixergy.com. is this intentional or got slipped?
June 10th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Thanks Michael!
It's getting much more organized. Getting rid of the “blog.” will make it
easier to tell people where to find things too.

Thanks for letting me know.
I think it's working now. Not sure why it didn't before.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:31 am
Really is.
Removes confusion too. I think people used to see blog.mixergy.com and
wonder what was on mixergy.com and why they couldn't see it.

Thanks again for doing this Jason!
I added a note about WP admin work to the post.

Really Awesome!!

Wow. this looks awesome. Great work.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:35 am
Andrew: Still not working. Check again.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:46 am
This post made me like Dreamhost even more. I'm surprised you didn't drop a referral code in there somewhere. ;)
June 10th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Oh, I think I see what you mean now. You're saying that Mixergy.com doesn't
lead to http://www.Mixergy.com. That's intentional. I didn't want to use any
subdomain.
So http://www.mixergy.com will send you to Mixergy.com.
And http://www.mixergy/events will lead to mixergy.com/events
Thanks for telling me though. I love input like this.

Every one I talked to before moving said they're the ones to use.
I recommend them too. And I do that even though I have no referral code and
get no commission. ;-)

It really is. Thank you.

Andrew: Got it – but another issue. The redirection code is not search friendly. It should be a 301 redirect for search engines. You can check it at: http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/redirect-check/ . Type the www URL and see the code it redirects to.

What a coincidence, I just started migrating my sites to dreamhost today (having a few issues myself). I sent them my first support ticked a couple of minutes ago and came across your tweet.
I will keep Jason's info handy.

You have this plugin to nicely redirect http://www.mixergy.com to mixergy.com, or otherwise

Do you know how I can make this search friendly? I haven't been able to
figure it out.
Would the plugin that MateJ suggested fix this issue properly?

MateJ, thanks for the suggestion! And Sameer thanks for point out this
issue?
