Here’s the thing. What I used to think was that authors actually don’t really make money from their books. What they do is they maybe build a reputation. They sell consulting services, etc. But the books are kind of a loss. In fact, it’s not an imaginary thing for me. I used to interview authors a lot on Mixergy and I remember how downcast they were, how much of their lives they banked on this book like making them into celebrities and all that and how much towards the end of their book run they felt like failures, worse than before.
