Why Aren’t There More Interviews With Female Entrepreneurs On Mixergy?!

Businesswoman

I got an email from Rosie Bernardo pointing out that there aren't many interviews with women on this site.

I've noticed that too, and it bothers me. Will you help me fix this problem?

Why this is an important issue

If we study the same group of Web 2.0 entrepreneurs over and over and over (the way other sites do), we're never going to get fresh ideas that will help us build breakout companies. My goal with Mixergy is to bring a mix of different voices.

That means I need to have more women here. (And, while I'm at it, it means I need to have more voices from outside the US.)

Will you help me find women to interview?

Of course, just being a woman isn't enough to qualify someone for an interview on Mixergy. What I'm looking for are women who online startups need to learn from.

I want to talk to women who achieved extraordinary success and are willing to talk about how they did it. Or women who had big failures in business and are willing to talk about what they learned.

Do you know someone who fits this profile? Tell me by email or in the comments.

And if you're not sure someone's a good fit, let's talk first. I don't want to turn down someone after you introduce me.

  • I think this is great idea! I would to hear some inspiring female stories.

    Andrew,
    you should interview Summer Swigart. She is an awesome techie and entrepreneur. When she is not helping The Groop helping run our tech practice, she is helping launch Big TV an online content platform.

    Here is my suggestion for a female entrepreneur. http://budurl.com/MeetDani

    She went from living out of her car with $2.03 cents to her name to making $1,000,000 by the age of 23 in a home business. Since then she's helped thousands achieve success by using her simple system.

    Mellie Price is amazing and has done multiple start ups. She is the founder of Front Gate Tickets and Front Gate Solutions – the largest independently owned ticketing software provider in the US. Send me an email if you are interested in an introduction.
  • You should contact @jen_bonnett on Twitter. She runs a group called StartupChicks at http://startupchicks.net. She'll have plenty of successful startup women for you to interview.
  • Don't forget to include some of the fantastic female social entrepreneurs out there!
  • Hi Andrew - We met at a tweet up organized by Jeff Pulver in LA a couple weeks ago. I would love to chat with you about women entrepreneurs in the tech/online startup space, as I am one who has been in online business software for nine years (successfully & not so successfully). My current company is a consulting company, Truion, that utilizes an online technology, Ion Objects. Please contact me if you have time to chat.

  • Thanks Sandy.
    Are you free for a call on Friday @ 4PM Pacific?

  • I would love to interview all of them. Any chance you know them and can
    introduce me?

    Female web entrepreneur & outside the US, I can't think of someone who build a really big and famous web company but there's Veerle, she has a very well known design blog in what you may call an online niche market: xhtml & css
    I don't know her personally though. She's the CEO of Duoh, a webdesign company. That by itself may not be what you're looking for but she managed to get some rather big projects &
    do a search on "xhtml css blog" because there's a story in that too.
  • Thanks! I'll see if I can make it happen.
  • Two that come to mind are:
    CEO of vator.tv --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bambi_Francisco

    AND

    CEO of ning --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gina_Bianchini
  • Great suggestions. I just sent both their offices an interview request.
  • How about Sandy Jen and Sandy Jen from Meebo.com?
  • Do you happen to know either one well enough to introduce me? Or should I
    send an email directly? And thank you.
  • I meant Sandy Jen and Elaine Wherry*
  • Thanks.
  • PedroFerreira
  • What a great list of stories. Thanks!
  • Val
  • I would love to interview Kathy Sierra. I haven't been able to reach her.
    Maybe someone on the site will help.
    And thanks for those links. Very helpful.

    There was an article in tech crunch not so long ago about 3 female entrepreneurs maybe you can talk to them.
  • I'll look it up. Thanks.

    I'd like to see you interview Ann Siner, owner of My Sister's Closet in the metro Phoenix/Scottsdale area. http://tiny.cc/lwchm

    She's an incredibly successful entrepreneur who has convinced fashionable gals that used designer duds are de rigeur!

    She's also achieved financial success in the 7 figures.

    As a female entrepreneur and creator of a startup myself - www.monimay.com - I look to women like Ann for their insight, credibility, and integrity.

    Femmepreneurs face the same issues as men, but in addition they must address issues and obstacles unique to women.

    Vision, passion, meeting a need - that all goes without saying - perception, balance, sustainable businesses helmed by women, financing, - our world tilts slightly differently in many areas from our male counterparts.

    Women like Ann Siner are a tremendous asset to CEO's like myself and I, for one, would certainly enjoy seeing a more varied cross section of successful entrepreneurs!

    Moni May

    - We've got you covered. . .

    @MoniMay
  • Now that's a great suggestion! Thanks.
    Do you know her or should I reach out to her directly?
