Really enjoyed this interview, Andrew. I love it when you have people on who are outside the whole web start-up world. It's a different mental model, and I love it when sites like Mixergy can expose me to new ways of thinking that would be outside of my normal reading.

Smith's claim that Russia defaulted on its foreign debt in the 1998 crisis is untrue. Only domestic debt and ruble-denominated government bonds (which were not available to foreign investors until changes in the law in 1997) were restructured. The government didn't touch obligations in foreign currencies.

Great interview Andrew. Best of luck as you get things sorted out in your new place. Glad to see you have taken Neil's advice to do full transcripts. Robert Smith is a fascinating guy and I'll look forward to reading his book. As far as Haystack, perhaps next time you could do a comparison with 99 Designs???

My feedback: The audio was ok. The interview was good for anyone interested in finance. It's a good teaser for what's in the book. I once read Jim Rogers' book Investment biker, I loved it, and I went to Argentina on vacation because of it. Robert's book may very well be another one just like it but slightly different. The content of the interview was so so, but I did listen to the entire interview so it wasn't bad, it just wasn't exceptionally good. Imo there should have been more info in the interview about the bond market.
