Has Identi.ca Found A Way To Flood TechCrunch With Links To Its Site?
on Jul 14, 2009 - 6:25 PM PSTI don’t usually write posts like this. I do interviews with online entrepreneurs.
But I thought someone here might know the answer to this question. Lately, when I go to TechCrunch and other sites, I see meaningless links to posts on Identi.ca. The site is similar to Twitter and it seems that every time someone uses it to link to a TechCrunch article, it shows up as a blog response.
Did Identi.ca find a way to flood blogs like TechCrunch with links back to its site?

Those are trackbacks. Usually they are used blog-to-blog to see who is talking about your posts in their own blogs, it looks like identi.ca is using them to send out microblogs as well.

Yeah. Imagine if Delicious did that. Or if Twitter did that every time
there's a tweet.
Trackbacks clearly aren't meant for those kinds of links.

They're probably pinging all the blogging directories. Clever idea, but it almost looks like spam…

That's what I was thinking. I'm surprised they're not getting called out on
it.
